BigXthaPlug and Jelly Roll have linked up for a new music video for “Box Me Up,” a track off the Dallas musician’s new country-inspired album, I Hope You’re Happy.
Directed by Jerry Morka, the dramatic visual finds BigX and Jelly Roll performing the heartbroken track in a majestic theater, at times bringing the titular “Box Me Up” motif to life when they appear inside a literal glass case of emotion that’s been placed on the stage. This footage is interspersed with scenes from a relationship that are tender one moment and tumultuous the next.
In a short behind-the-scenes clip that played before the video’s premiere, BigX said of “Box Me Up,” “It’s a very emotional song. It talks about love in relationships, hate in relationships. Hopefully the song’s lyrics help with [peoples’] relationship problems as well, but they enjoy the video and how we put this big production together. “
“Box Me Up” is one of several blockbuster collaborations on I Hope You’re Happy, which arrived today, Aug. 22. The album also finds BigX working with Luke Combs, Darius Rucker, Shaboozey, Thomas Rhett, Ellla Langley, Bailey Zimmerman, and Tucker Wetmore.
In a statement, BigX said of his new album, “This album’s my heart, my story — the love, the loss, the heartbreak, the grind. I wanted people to feel it all with me, the highs, the lows, the real life that shapes you. I Hope You’re Happy is me mixing my urban roots with that country soul, tellin’ my story straight up, just me.”
I Hope You’re Happy marks BigXthaPlug’s third studio album and arrives fast on the heels of his acclaimed 2024 LP, Take Care, which Rolling Stone named one of the 20 best hip-hop albums of the year.
