Ludmilla and Victoria Monét are the prettiest stream besties. On Friday, the Brazilian musician and R&B star premiered the video for their collaboration “Cam Girl” with Rolling Stone, showcasing a new side of Ludmilla’s artistry.
“This song was a chance for me to explore R&B in my own way,” she tells Rolling Stone. “Funk will always be part of who I am, and R&B is a genre I love. In my first two albums, I explored the genre, but with ‘Cam Girl,’ I wanted to show another side of myself and experiment with a sound that’s always inspired me.”
The video cleverly uses a screen-recording before turning to Ludmilla on a livestream walking through a mansion holding up a camera like a selfie stick, before meeting Moneet at the door, who’s waiting with a bouquet of flowers for Lud. The pair then queen out from different parts of the house. (Rolling Stone even gets a shout-out toward the end of the video.)
“Pull out your phone, put it on cinematic like… / I ain’t no actress but I’m ‘bout that action / Let’s go,” sings Monét on her sexy verses. “I know how to perform / And I’m about to let you film something you don’t have to delete.”
Ludmilla says that working with Monét “felt so natural” to her and that they built a friendship throughout the process of making the sexy song. “We created something that still feels authentic to me. It’s playful and sensual, but also about confidence and power in today’s world, which is exactly how I see myself as an artist,” she explains.
Monét, who’s fresh off the massive success of her Jaguar album, thanks to the hit “On My Mama,” said that working with Ludmilla was “a no-brainer” from the second she asked to work together. “When this opportunity came up, it felt like the perfect chance to blend worlds musically and personally. I love collaborations that push boundaries,” she said. “I’ve always wanted a song with her.”
Monét isn’t joking about the boundary-pushing collaborations. Her last collaboration was with Nigerian icon Davido on “Offa Me” earlier this year. On Ludmilla’s side, the Brazilian queen was tapped by reggaeton star Myke Towers for “Freaky” and Steve Aoki for “Rio Amazing.”
