Here’s What Taylor Swift’s Best Friend Said About Her Engagement

Long before Taylor Swift was one of the biggest musical superstars on the planet, she was just a high school freshman, and her best friend was a girl named Abigail.

Now, 20 years later, Abigail Anderson Berard is celebrating her childhood best friend’s engagement.

Swift and her NFL star fiancé Travis Kelce announced on Tuesday (Aug. 26) that they’re getting married.

They shared the news with a carousel of fairytale-esque proposal pictures. Kelce got down on one knee in a flower-filled outdoor setting, and their announcement included snapshots of the moment she said “yes,” plus a close-up of her staggering engagement ring.

Abigail had a sweet, simple reaction to Swift’s big news.

She shared Swift and Kelce’s announcement post on her Instagram Stories, simply writing “This” along with a red heart emoji.

Though Abigail’s life is much quieter than her superstar best friend’s, Swift’s fanbase has gotten to know her through the lyrics of “Fifteen.”

That song, which Swift included on her 2008 studio album Fearless, describes Swift’s first day of high school.

Abigail was right by her side during those days.

“You sit in class next to a redhead named Abigail / And soon enough you’re best friends,” one line reads. “Laughing at the other girls / Who think they’re so cool / We’ll be out of here as soon as we can.”

What Has Abigail Been Up to Since High School?

Abigail Anderson Berard has kept her friendship with Swift strong over the years, as she goes about her relatively normal life.

She got married to Charles Berard in September 2022. In August 2024, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Bennett.

In July, Abigail was by Swift’s side as they attended Travis Kelce’s Tight End University music event in Nashville.
