Gwen Stefani as Dorothy? Or maybe she’s giving Glinda vibes?

- Dorothy — from 13 Going On 30 producer Gina Matthews — is being developed for Prime Video.
- The series is a music-heavy, young adult retelling of Wizard of Oz.

Has Gwen Stefani or Blake Shelton Acted Before?
Gwen Stefani’s acting resume is thin, which is evidence that her role as non-writing executive producer may stick. While she’s done plenty of reality television work (most notable The Voice), the No Doubt singer’s only on-camera film credit is a very small part in The Aviator, a 2004 Leonard DiCaprio movie.
Shelton’s acting credits are largely voiceover roles. For example, in 2016 he played Earl Pig in the Angry Birds movie.
He did get a role in Reba McEntire’s short-lived comedy Malibu Country in 2013, playing the star’s wayward brother, Blake.
Deadline shares that Matthews brought the idea to Shelton, who thought to include his wife of four years. In turn she called the character of Dorothy an inspiration, and that sounds like what the new show is going for.
The series will use the book/film’s famous Yellow Brick Road as a metaphor for challenges and choices facing young adults today. It sounds like the series may stretch beyond the well-known plot of the famous film to include elements of author L. Frank Baum’s other Oz books. He wrote 14 of them.
Dorothy on Prime Video — Cast and Release Date
No cast announcements came with news of this show’s development. It’s also not clear when Dorothy will debut on Amazon Prime.
Shelton will be plenty busy in the meantime. This fall, he’s set to executive produce a CBS singing reality show called The Road that follows country newcomers competing for a change to open for headliner Keith Urban.
He’s also been part of the production team and starred in a USA show called Barmageddon and was an original coach on NBC’s The Voice.
