Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt will also take part in a medley celebrating heavy metal legend
The MTV Video Music Awards will pay tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne with an all-star performance featuring Yungblud and members of Aerosmith.
Steven Tyler, Joe Perry, guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, and Yungblud will take the stage together at New York’s UBS Arena this Sunday to deliver a medley of some of Osbourne’s greatest hits.
In addition to Osbourne’s own classic music videos — like “Bark at the Moon” in MTV’s infancy as well as Nineties-era visuals for “No More Tears” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home” — the heavy metal legend was a mainstay on MTV thanks to his hit reality show The Osbournes, which followed the hijinks of Ozzy and his family for four seasons and over 50 episodes in the early 2000s. The Emmy-winning series is also credited for kickstarting the wave of reality series centered around famous families, like the Kardashians.
Yungblud, Bettencourt, and Tyler were all among the artists who took part in Osbourne’s Back to the Beginning farewell concert just weeks before Ozzy’s July 22 death; Yungblud performed the Black Sabbath ballad “Changes,” while Bettencourt was featured in the backing band dubbed Tom Morello’s All-Stars. Tyler, meanwhile, sang lead vocals of songs by Led Zeppelin and Aerosmith, but no Ozzy-fronted tracks at the Birmingham gig.
The tribute also marks a now-rare reunion between Aerosmith’s Tyler and Perry, as that band hasn’t officially performed together since their farewell tour was canceled due to Tyler’s vocal issues in 2023. While Aerosmith did reunite for a California wildfire benefit show earlier this year, the group has not announced plans for a makeup farewell tour.
Sunday’s VMAs will also feature performances by Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, Tate McRae, Alex Warren, Doja Cat, Jelly Roll, J Balvin, and more.
