Underwood’s performance of “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night” has kicked off 13 seasons of the NFL on NBC
It’s lucky No. 13 for Carrie Underwood and : The country star teamed up with NBC’s weekly NFL game for a 13th consecutive season to sing “Waiting All Day for Sunday Night,” the series’ theme song.
After teasing the production earlier this summer Underwood and Sunday Night Football debuted the new opening in full on Sunday night, prior to a game between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. For Season 20, Underwood struts through a hallway and into an elevator in a silver coat before she begins to belt the rocking song in the new clip. She arrives onstage in a sparkly blue number, with cheerleaders and the band — complete with a string section — backing her.
Of course, the song, with its game-specific lyrics, was recorded well in advance. For the accompanying video, Underwood filmed her performance in Las Vegas at the Resorts World Theatre, where she’s hosted her long-running residency, Reflection.
“We had a blast shooting the new opening at the Resorts World Theatre again,” Underwood said in a statement. “As always, Tripp and the creative team continue to raise the bar, bringing the high energy and stunning visuals that the Sunday Night Football audience has come to expect year after year. I can’t wait for the world to see it!”
Tripp Dixon, creative director of the SNF show open, added: “For the 20th season of SNF, we wanted to set the tone for the night by reimagining the anthem sound in a way that plays to Carrie’s powerhouse vocals, while visually creating a seamless blend of stylized shots and behind-the-scenes moments evoking the national roadshow that is Sunday Night Football, week after week in the fall.”
The 2025 season of NFL action began Thursday with a game between the defending Super Bowl champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, and their arch division rival, the Dallas Cowboys.
