Grande reposted the performance on Instagram with a teary-eyed emoji
Dua Lipa gave Miami her all on Saturday night with an electric rendition of Ariana Grande‘s “One Last Time.” The singer selected the 2014 record for her surprise song, which changes each night to honor a local legend on each stop of the Radical Optimism tour.
“I feel like everyone kind of knows and remembers exactly where they were when this song came out,” Lipa told the Kaseya Center audience. “So if you know it, please sing along.” Grande reposted a video of the performance on her Instagram Story, adding an infinity symbol, a heart, and a teary-eyed emoji.
Lipa appeared on an early version of Grande’s 2018 album Sweetener, but their collaboration was never officially released. Later that year, she shared, “I love Ari, I love everything she does. But the timing wasn’t quite right.”
“One Last Time” is the latest in a growing list of homage covers Lipa has performed since the Radical Optimism tour kicked off earlier this year. For her other Miami show, she sprung for Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine’s “Conga.” She also performed “It Ain’t Over ‘Til It’s Over” with Lenny Kravitz and “Le Freak” with Nile Rodgers in New York.
The tour will continue in Dallas later this week followed by stops in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Seattle. Once wrapped on the U.S. leg of the tour, Lipa will head to South American before returning to Mexico to close out the international run with three final shows in December.
“You make the album, you promote it, you go on tour, you do the same thing, and that’s so amazing, but I think there’s going to come a point where maybe I want to take just a little bit longer [in between],” Lipa told Rolling Stone last year. “I have all these other things that I can also do that really interest me.”
