The new record was broken in less than 12 hours since the album’s release
The world hasn’t even had The Life of a Showgirl for a full 24 hours, and it’s already broken a streaming record on Spotify. On Friday, the streaming service announced that the new twelfth album by Swift broke the record for most-streamed in a single day so far in 2025, just 11 hours after its release.
Swift replaces Playboy Carti’s March album Music, which had the most streams in 24 hours this year. During Good Morning America earlier on Friday, Spotify revealed that 1.2 million users were streaming the album at that exact moment.
Swift is on a Spotify streaming record streak. Earlier this week, she broke her own record for most album pre-saves, reaching more than five million and surpassing the record held by The Tortured Poets Department.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am to share this with you, an album that just feels so right. A forever thank you goes out to my mentors and friends Max and Shellback for helping me paint this self-portrait,” Swift wrote on Instagram following the album’s release. “If you thought the big show was wild, perhaps you should come and take a look behind the curtain.”
Spotify has been celebrating the release of The Life of a Showgirl all week, hosting a pop-up activation in New York City for fans to take photos in album-inspired backdrops and featuring previously unshared lyrics from the new record.
A Rolling Stone review gave the new album a five-star review, writing, “Showgirl is the castle she built out of all the bricks that have been thrown at her. She begged on her knees to change the prophecy, and the love she writes about here did just that. She lost her life’s work, but now the empire belongs to her.”
