6 Things You Can’t Return to Target, No Matter What

Target is known for its generous return policy, allowing customers to exchange or return nearly anything they buy — but there are six items you’re not allowed to bring back, ever.

A quick look at Target’s website and return policy makes it clear they have no interest in giving your money back when it comes to these items.

Items Target Won’t Let You Return

  • Trading cards and accessories (e.g., Pokémon cards, sports cards, trading card binders): Even if they’re unopened, you can’t return or exchange them.

  • Open or defective collectibles: Includes special-edition Barbie dolls, porcelain dolls, action figures and die-cast cars. Even if you open the package and find it’s defective, you’re out of luck — no returns or exchanges.

  • Personalized items and digital downloads: Anything customized (like monogrammed products) or digital downloads can’t be returned or exchanged.

  • Opened or unsealed breast pumps: For obvious reasons, these cannot be returned or exchanged.

  • Specialty gift cards, pre-paid cards and Target gift cards: These can’t be returned or redeemed for cash or credit except where required by law. That includes Target GiftCards, Visa, Mastercard or American Express gift cards, plus restaurant, entertainment and lottery cards.

  • Fragrances sold by Target Plus Partners: These are not eligible for returns.

Before you start your Christmas shopping this year, take a good look at Target’s list of non-returnable items — you don’t want to be the gift-giver who gives the unexchangeable gift that doesn’t keep on giving.
