Robert Irwin brought the nation to tears during Dedication Night on Dancing With the Stars on Tuesday (Oct. 14). The conservationist used the night to honor his mother Terri Irwin, which brought up a lot of feelings about his late father, Steve Irwin.
Prior to his big moment on stage, Irwin worked with his partner Whitney Carson on his routine. Although he chose to make his dance about his mother, he chose her because of the strength she’s shown since Steve tragically died in 2006 after being fatally stuck by a sting ray barb.
What Did Robert Irwin Say About His Dad on Dancing With the Stars?
“And at every milestone I just wish —I just wish that my dad was there,” he tells her behind the scenes while wiping away tears and burying his head into his shirt.

Irwin’s routine was just as emotional, if not more. He and Carson delivered a contemporary-style dance to Phil Collins’ “You’ll Be in My Heart.”
The big surprise came at the end, while the two dancers held hands and looked into each other’s eyes. The camera panned around them in a full circle before revealing Irwin’s mom replacing Carson to hold her son’s hand.
He brings her hand to his chest before spinning her around. He then collapses into her embrace, overcome with emotion.
Who Is Robert Irwin?
Irwin, now 21 years old, is the son of Steve and Terri Irwin.
The couple built a conservation empire, with Steve becoming a household name across the globe as “The Crocodile Hunter.” The two hosted several television shows and also co-owned and operated the Australian Zoo in Queensland.
Robert is the couple’s second child. He and his older sister Bindi have since carried on their late father’s legacy since his death by spreading conservation awareness.
