Gretchen Wilson thinks that some of the men making today’s country music are sissies who need to be less timid and more manly.
Ahead of the premiere of The Road on CBS this Sunday at 9PM ET/PT, where Wilson is the road manager of up and coming artists trying to make it in country music, she stopped by the Taste of Country Nights studios to chat it up with Evan Paul.
Paul asked Wilson if she thought there were more sissies in today’s country music, compared to the cowboys and outlaws of the genre’s past.

Wilson laughed, took a deep breath and said, “Well…I see that more on the male side than the female side, actually.”
“It just seems like more men are timid nowadays than the women are. It’s just where we are at in our world,” she continued.
“It does seem like women are more boisterous than they used to be,” Wilson added. “They’re unafraid and ready to kick the doors down.”
Wilson digs her nails in deep here with this next statement. “Men seem to be standing around, asking for permission.
“I’m not afraid to say it, we have kinda squashed the male demographic as a whole anyway,” she stated. “If I had a son, I’d be afraid right now in today’s world.”
What Should the Men of Country Music Do Next?
If you’re a man making country music in today’s world, listen up: Wilson’s got three pieces of advice.
Men need to “speak up, be a man, flirt, do your thing,” Wilson believes.
In the same conversation, she also said she “can’t tell what’s real anymore” in the genre.
“Some of these kids just got mommy and daddy’s money and they put together a little story that they wish were true,” she points out.
The problem with presenting yourself as someone you’re really not? “Country music is not dumb,” Wilson says, and the fans will eventually figure it out.
“Everybody has always wanted to be a cowboy,” she continued. “I mean, come on, that doesn’t mean you get to be one. You have to know how to saddle up a horse.”
How Old is Gretchen Wilson?
Wilson is 52 years-old. She was born on June 26, 1973.

12 talented acts will compete as opening acts for Keith Urban traveling across a series of mid-size venues across the south in a trial by fire. They’ll need to win over local audiences in order to secure their spot at the next town.
Wilson serves as the road manager for the contestants, and she’ll presumably give them advice on how not to be sissies in their country music careers.
