The Cure Hint That Another New Album Is Already in the Works

Just months after Songs of a Lost World‘s arrival, “the band went back into Rockfield Studios to record 13 more songs for a follow up album”

While it took 16 years for the Cure to release a new album before the arrival of 2024’s Songs of a Lost World, fans likely won’t have to wait nearly that long for Robert Smith and company’s next studio LP.

The band’s official website updated its lengthy bio section in recent weeks, with fans noticing one especially noteworthy sentence added to the career-spanning write-up: “In March 2025 the band went back into Rockfield Studios to record 13 more songs for a follow up album.”

Additionally, the bio noted that Smith also went “back into the studio to help re-edit and re-mix The Show Of A Lost World film…,” which is likely the in-the-works concert film of a November 2024 performance at London’s Troxy, where they performed Songs of a Lost World in its entirety as well as other Cure classics.

Smith previously hinted that the gap between Songs of a Lost World and the band’s next endeavor wouldn’t take as long as the time between 2008’s 4:13 Dream and their latest album, as the group recorded three LPs’ worth of music over the past few years.

“This is jumping about, but we recorded about 25 or 26 songs in 2019. We recorded three albums in 2019; that’s always been the problem. I’ve tried to get three albums completed,” Smith said in an interview a month before Songs of a Lost World’s release.

“It will work out this time. Having finished this one, the second one is virtually finished as well. The third one is a bit more difficult because, well if we get that far… Talking about the third album, you see what I mean? I just can’t help myself.”

Trending Stories

In the Shows of a Lost World tour that preceded the 2024 album, the Cure debuted a handful of songs live that ultimately ended up on the LP itself. However, songs like “Another Happy Birthday,” which the band also premiered during the trek, remain unreleased and likely destined for the band’s next album, or the album after that.

While no release date or other details were revealed, expect talk of the new album to escalate ahead of the Cure’s headlining sets at Primavera and Isle of Wight next year.
