Foo Fighters seemingly shared clip of a new song on Instagram last night. The short video features an image of a green bird sitting on a stack of amps in front of the rock band’s logo. The caption notes that the group is “About to take flight…”
The band has not officially announced the release of any new music. Earlier this month, Foo Fighters released a live album, Are Playing Where??? Vol. I, via Bandcamp. It features songs recorded at the group’s first live gigs together in over a year, which took place in September in San Luis Obispo, California; Santa Ana, California; Washington, D.C.; and New Haven, Connecticut.
“Pay what you want — proceeds go to local charities combatting food insecurity in the four cities where the shows took place, so give what you can,” the band wrote of the six-song release. “And while you’re there, check out and support some other artists. Discover something new or rediscover some old favorites.”
The live album came on the heels on an AI-assisted teaser video the band shared on YouTube. The short video ended with the words, “Stay tuned… there’s more to come!” Earlier this year Foo Fighters, dropped their first new music since 2023’s But Here We Are: the new track “Today’s Song” and a cover of Minor Threat’s “I Don’t Wanna Hear It.”
Although it’s unclear what Foo Fighters are up to, fans are enjoying the speculation. Some have suggested Foo Fighters are heading to Brazil thanks to the colors on the bird in their new teaser, while others are hoping for a full tour.
The band’s recent performances have marked the debut of their new drummer Ilan Rubin, joined the band this summer after the Foos parted ways with Josh Freese, who had stepped in after the 2022 death of longtime drummer Taylor Hawkins. Grohl introduced Rubin from the stage of San Luis Obispo, California’s 900-capacity Fremont Theater last month, saying, “Everybody else has said it. I finally get the opportunity to say, ‘Ladies and gentlemen, will you please welcome…’ The most badass motherfucker, Ilan Rubin, is playing drums in the Foo Fighters right now. It’s official. You can stamp the passport.”
