Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren, are mourning the loss of one of their best friends and a beloved family member — their dog, Cash.
Rhett shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook on Oct. 16, posting a sweet message to send Cash off to doggie heaven.
The singer-songwriter penned a heartfelt eulogy for his pup:
“Today our sweet little Cash man went to go be with Jesus. He was the most loyal, kind dog that I have ever known. He was Lauren’s best friend. He was there when every single baby came home for the first time. He would stay up so many late nights with her while she was sick and I was gone.
I never in a million years thought that a dog I got so frustrated with for eating food or tearing up things in the house would make me this sad. If you’ve got a dog, go give them some extra love. Our house is so quiet today. I know Cash is running around in heaven and will be the first one to greet us when we get there.”
It’s never easy to lose a beloved pet — and it’s even harder to explain that kind of loss to your children. It’s a conversation that surely won’t be easy for Rhett and Lauren as they navigate the grief with their four daughters, who no doubt loved Cash just as much.
Although Rhett says their house feels quiet now, it won’t stay that way for long. He and Lauren recently announced that they’re expecting their fifth baby in early 2026.
The “Life Changes” singer told Taste of Country Nights a little while back that they don’t know the baby’s gender yet — and plan to wait until the birth to find out.
