Jelly Roll and Bunnie Xo have been married eight years and counting, and they’ve put in the work to make their partnership rock solid.
But things haven’t always been that way. Both members of the couple have been candid about their 2018 breakup, during which Bunnie moved from Nashville back to Las Vegas—where Jelly eventually followed her to win her back.
That brief, painful breakup stemmed from an affair that Jelly had with another woman.
When Did Jelly Roll Cheat on Bunnie Xo?
The country star has spoken publicly about the incident, but Jelly goes deeper than ever on how difficult the experience was during a new appearance on the Human School Podcast.
“One of the worst moments of my adulthood was when I had an affair on my wife,” the singer admits.

At the time, Jelly was already working toward a long, well-documented journey of holistic self-improvement. Maybe that’s why it hurt so much for him for him to slip in such a self-destructive way.
“It was the first time that I was like, ‘I really can’t get this right at all.’ Like, I know I’m in love with this woman. You know what I mean? It just really, really, really blew me back,” the singer admits.
Jelly “did a lot of work to repair that relationship,” revealing, “We’re stronger than we could have ever been. I wish our story would have went in the way where it never had an affair, and I’m in no way glad it happened. But man, I’m proud of who we are today.”

Jelly Roll Wants to Be a Better Husband to Bunnie Xo
Flash forward to today and Jelly points to another, albeit much smaller, example of how he’s still not a perfect husband. It all started with a phone call after not having a phone for nearly a year.
The musician admits that, during a trip away from home, he began to feel frustrated when Bunnie called him multiple times a day—even though he knew she was having a hard time because of the hormonal treatments from and stress caused by their current IVF and surrogacy journey.
“By the end of the night, she’s like, ‘I feel like we’ve hardly talked today,'” he recounts.

“And in that moment, I know that she’s nervous about this thing. She’s hormonal, she needs security right now. She needs me to go, ‘Baby, I’ll talk to you all night if you want to.’ But instead she got the, ‘Bunnie, we talked seven times today,'” Jelly adds.
The “Dreams Don’t Die” singer immediately regretted the way he handled the conversation, but the next morning he started working to correct the communication misstep.
“I woke up and the first thing I did was repair. I send a text like, ‘Yo, completely tone deaf moment on me… I was so in my own s–t I didn’t care about you. How I really feel is I love you and we’re gonna be good,'” he explains on the podcast.
