Thanks to rising country singer Annie Bosko, I have attained a little insider information about Dwight Yoakam‘s cell phone.
Bosko — who just dropped her debut album, California Cowgirl — stopped by Taste of Country Nights to talk about it, and we hyper-focused on the track called “Heart Burn,” which features Yoakam.
We asked Bosko how she got him to collaborate on a song with her.
She said, “I became friends with he and his wife, they had come to a show of mine. I asked him, I wrote him a hand-written note with a flash drive of the song and I was like, ‘You know what? What do you have to lose?'”
She said she waited and waited to hear from Yoakam, and then one day, she got a call from a blocked number, and she didn’t answer it. It was Yoakam, and he left her a message to return his call.
Bosko says that even though she has Yoakam’s cell phone number, when he calls her, the number comes up restricted.
She says she has learned in this day and age that when she gets a call and “it’s no called ID, you’ve gotta assume it’s someone important,” and pick up the call.
While most of us do everything we can to avoid calls from a blocked number, Bosko explained that it’s totally different in the celebrity world.
“There’s a handful of people I know with no caller ID, so you’re like, ‘Which one is it?'”
We tried to get her to spill the beans on who her celebrity friends with restricted numbers are, but she tightened up and jokingly said, “I don’t know if I’m allowed to say, is that appropriate?”
As far as Yoakam is concerned, Bosko says he is sweet and soft-spoken on the phone. During their conversation, he said, “Ya know, Annie, I listened to the song, and I really love the song — yeah, I’d love to do it.”
