The track is the first preview from her upcoming album Lux
Rosalía is back and she’s going bigger than ever this time: The Spanish singer dropped “Berghain,” the first single from her upcoming album Lux, and it’s one of her most theatrical releases yet. The track is filled with operatic vocals, a thundering choir, and a rich, swelling orchestra backing her — plus, there are cameos from Björk and Yves Tumor as well.
The track starts off with an opulent string arrangement and a choir, with the lyrics flipping between German and Spanish. “I know full well what I am,” Rosalía sings in Spanish. “Sweetness for your coffee/I’m just a sugar cube/I know heat melts me/I know how to disappear.”
The artist recently revealed that Lux was created alongside the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Daníel Bjarnason. “Berghain” is the first preview of what came from that collaboration, showing the dramatic nature of the music on the record. In the video, Rosalía goes back and forth between mundane errands wihile the entire orchestra follows her around at home, at the doctor, at a coffee shop, and more. Eventually, she enters a dark, forest-like fantasyland as Björk and Yves Tumor chime in with vocals.
A recent press release for Lux described it as an album that “traces a widescreen emotional arc of feminine mystique, transformation, and transcendence — moving between intimacy and operatic scale to create a radiant world where sound, language, and culture fuse as one.”
Since 2022’s Motomami, Rosalía has kept a steady parade of singles going, with “LLYM” in 2022 and “Tuya” in 2023. She also released RR, a collaborative EP with Rauw Alejandro and teamed up with Björk on “Oral.” More recently, she joined Lisa on “New Woman” and Ralphie Choo on “Omega.”
