Karol G and Marco Antonio Solís took it back to the música romantica of the Eighties and Nineties. At Thursday’s Latin Grammys, the Tropicoqueta star was joined by El Buki for a duet of their collaboration, “Coleccionando Heridas.”
The performance opened with soft guitar as the camera followed Karol G — wearing an orange halter top — from behind. “What if we sing this one together for the first time ever at the Grammys?” she teased before starting the song.
Solís, dressed in a beige, patterned jacket, soon joined the Colombian queen, stepping into the light for his verse. The camera closed in on their faces as they sang the tender ballad, gazing into each other’s eyes. For the outro, Solís and Karol grasped hands and did a sweet dance.
“Tell them again, please!” Solís asked Karol before closing the ballad.
It’s been a big year for Karol G, who was announced as the first Latina star to headline Coachella next year. She also released her album Tropicoqueta, which featured Marco Antonio Solís.
“When we made ‘Coleccionado Heridas,’ I felt like it needed a classic male voice that would take me back to a specific moment from a long time ago,” she told Rolling Stone about working with El Buki earlier this year. “He was everything you’d expect from an artist you’ve admired your whole life. Being able to meet him was so special… He sounds like classic Marco Antonio Solis on it. This song sounds like we went back in time.”
This year, Karol G’s song “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido” is up for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Tropical Song as well. Karol has six Latin Grammy wins to her name, including Best New Artist in 2017 and Album of the Year for Mañana Será Bonito in 2023.
While Solís isn’t up for any awards this year, he’s a five-time winner with four of his awards coming in the Best Regional Mexican Song category, including for Tu Amor o Tu Desprecio” in 2004 and “De Mil Amores” in 2014. He was also recognized as Person of the Year in 2022.
Los Tigres Del Norte, DannyLux, Carlos Santana, Carín León and Kacey Musgraves, Bad Bunny, Grupo Frontera, Joaquina, Elena Rose, and Morat are also scheduled to perform at the ceremony. Bad Bunny led nominations with 12 nods. Maluma and Roselyn Sanchez are co-hosting the ceremony.
