The two Mexican American bands represented música mexicana at the awards show after being nominated for their duet
Fuerza Regida made their Latin Grammys debut in a big way. The Mexican-American band joined forces with Grupo Frontera and also performed their global smash “Malboro Rojo.”
Fuerza Regida are pioneers in the corridos tumbados movement. After years of cultivating the sound and the scene, the group led by Jesús Ortiz Paz received their first Latin Grammy nomination this year. They were nominated for Best Regional Mexican Song for their collaboration “Me Jalo” with Grupo Frontera.
In a move fitting for their debut, Fuerza Regida opened their set with the feel-good “Me Jalo” with Grupo Frontera, who performed earlier in the evening with Carlos Santana. JOP emerged with his face covered at first, then he re-emerged in a pickup truck and a Chalino Sánchez-inspired suit and sombrero. He turned up the heat with his bandmates with a live performance of the fiery corrido “Malboro Rojo.” .
Back in May, Fuerza Regida released their blockbuster album 111xpantia. When it opened at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart, the LP made history as the highest charting música mexicana release. Fuerza Regida also recently received their first Grammy nomination: At next year’s ceremony, their collaborative EP Mala Mía with Grupo Frontera is nominated for Best Música Mexicana Album.
Los Tigres Del Norte, DannyLux, Carlos Santana, Marco Antonio Solís and Karol G, Carín León and Kacey Musgraves, Bad Bunny, Joaquina, Elena Rose, and Morat are also scheduled to perform at the ceremony. Bad Bunny led nominations with 12 nods. Maluma and Roselyn Sanchez are co-hosting the ceremony.
