Donald Glover Reveals He Had a Stroke During His Childish Gambino Tour

Donald Glover has revealed that he suffered a stroke in 2024. He shared the news on Saturday while performing at Camp Flog Gnaw at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.

He said he was in the midst of his New World Tour and was “having lots of fun,” but then, “I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana, and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well. So when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital, and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke,’” Glover told the audience last night, as fan-captured footage from the livestream shows. “And the first thing I thought was like, ‘Oh, like, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.’ That’s really like the second thing. The first thing was like, ‘I’m letting everybody down.’”

He added that he had also broken his foot, “and they found a hole in my heart. So, I had this surgery, and then I had to have another surgery.”

The health challenges, however, led to an added appreciation for embracing the time one has, and Glover shared this perspective with the crowd. “So, you know they say … everybody has two lives, and the second life starts when you realize you have one. You got one life, guys,” he said, adding, “You should be living your life how you want.”

In September of last year, Glover was forced to postpone the rest of his Childish Gambino tour to “focus on my health,” the rapper announced at the time, and in October 2024 he said he was undergoing surgery for an unspecified ailment and canceled the rest of his tour. He had not disclosed the specifics publicly until his Camp Flog Gnaw appearance last night.
