Beyonce to Co-Chair with Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams

Beyoncé will return to the Met Gala for the first time in 10 years when she co-chairs the annual event next spring.

The pop legend, who last attended the Met Gala in 2016, was one of three celebrity co-chairs announced today (Dec. 10), alongside Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams. Anna Wintour, who just stepped down as editor-in-chief of Vogue — the Met Gala’s lead organizer — will also retain her regular role as one of the event’s co-chairs.

Neither a dress code nor a theme for the Met Gala has been announced, but the event will be tied to “Costume Art,” the new annual exhibit from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Per a press release, the exhibit will explore “the relationship between clothing and the body,” revealing how different body types are shaped by the garments that clothe them, and vice versa.

The exhibition will be organized into a “series of thematic body types,” such as the “Naked Body,” the “Classical Body,” the “Anatomical Body,” the “Pregnant Body,” and the “Aging Body.” Focusing primarily on Western art from prehistory to the present, “Costume Art” will pair art from the Met Museum’s collection alongside an array of garments from throughout history.

The exhibit’s curator, Andrew Bolton, said in a statement, “I wanted to focus on the centrality of the dressed body within the Museum, connecting artistic representations of the body with fashion as an embodied art form. Rather than prioritizing fashion’s visuality, which often comes at the expense of the corporeal, ‘Costume Art’ privileges its materiality and the indivisible connection between our bodies and the clothes we wear.”

The “Costume Art” exhibit is set to run May 10, 2026, through Jan. 10, 2027. It will be the first exhibit at the Met Museum’s new gallery space adjacent to the Great Hall.

As co-chairs, Beyoncé, Kidman, Williams, and Wintour will help lead the event, though they aren’t the only celebs involved. Zoë Kravitz and fashion designer Anthony Vaccarello will co-chair the gala’s host committee, with members including Sabrina Carpenter, Doja Cat, Misty Copeland, Lena Dunham, Sam Smith, Lisa, Teyana Taylor, Elizabeth Debicki, and more. Additional host committee members will be announced at a later date.
