Taylor Swift kicked off the premiere week for her six-part documentary series The End of an Era, which chronicles her historic Eras Tour. On Wednesday morning, the pop superstar shared a sneak peek of the first two episodes on Good Morning America.
In the clip, behind-the-scenes shots of Swift and her crew practicing and setting up the Eras Tour stage flash by as Swift remarks on the singular energy of the Eras Tour. “We have done something that no one has ever done,” she says. Andrea Swift, the singer’s mother, also weighs in on the magnitude of the tour and how it was executed. “It’s mind-boggling,” she says.
The execution of such a large production was further complicated on the tour’s European leg, when Swift added her 2024 album The Tortured Poets Department into the set. “We had to be all-hands-on-deck to put a brand new era into the show,” she says about that specific challenge. Dancer Kameron Saunders, who became a fan-favorite with his dance solos and dialogue, also shares a bit of his experience in the clip. “This feels like my Super Bowl,” he says pointedly. (Saunders’ brother, Khalen, is a two-time Super Bowl champion for his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, no less).
The clip ends discussing Swift’s various special guests, including Ed Sheeran and Florence Welch, who each joined the singer onstage at Wembley Stadium. “Every single night, we are going to do everything in our power to blow your mind,” Swift says.
Swift shared the early look into The End of an Era with fans following an advance screening in New York. On Tuesday, the superstar gathered her family and team, along with selected members of the media, for an intimate showing of the documentary series. Swift’s immediately family, including her mother Andrea, father Scott, and brother Austin were in attendance, as were the singer’s backup dancers and band, whom performed on the momentous Eras Tour. Their excitement for The End of an Era was palpable, as they reacted to the series in real-time.
“The directors [Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce] expanded upon the stories of not just me, but everyone who was part of this,” Swift said at the screening. “There was a lot of magic and mystery that happens when something goes as well as this (tour) did.”
The End of an Era will simultaneously debut with Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour | The Final Show, an extended edition of the Eras Tour concert film. When the film first arrived in the midst of the tour, The Tortured Poets Department hadn’t yet been released. Swift later worked the record into her set, which was then captured for this release on the final date in Vancouver. It’s been exactly a year to the date of the final Eras Tour show, which wrapped on Dec. 8, 2024 in Vancouver, Canada. The documentary series and updated concert film will officially premiere with the first two episodes on Friday, Dec. 12 on Disney+, a day before the star’s birthday.
It’s a busy week for Swift. The pop star is also set to appear on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Wednesday night.
