Taylor Swift Talks Breakups, Travis Kelce in Eras Tour Doc

Taylor Swift tends to leave a lot of her romantic relationships solely to her music, especially when it comes to lovers past. But in the latest episode of her The End of an Era doc series, the singer offers a rare glimpse into what her love life looked like on the Eras Tour.

As Swift shares clips from her The Tortured Poets Department recording sessions, she reflects on, “feeling like I’m not a person, like I’m just this big conglomerate that no one sees as a real human being,” she says, and pointedly adds, “especially not men that I date.” Since the album’s release in 2024, fans believe some of the songs on TTPD reference both Swift’s six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn and brief fling with Matty Healy.

The whole process of dating as a famous superstar had Taylor feeling hopeless about love. “There is no one for me in the world,” she remembers feeling while writing TTPD — which she worked on during the first leg of the Eras Tour back in 2023.

Even as the singer recorded an entirely new body of work (31 songs in total) while on tour, she emphasizes that the challenges of her life were much more personal. “There were points in this tour where the tour was really the only thing keeping me going in my life,” Swift says. “I went through two breakups on the first half of this tour and that’s a lot of breakups, actually.” Swift continues as a clip of her acoustic rendition of Midnights breakup song “Hits Different” plays in the background: “The tour has never been the hard thing in my life, the tour has been the thing that has allowed me to find purpose outside of the shit that was going wrong in my life. Men will let you down. The Eras Tour never will.”

Of course, the Eras Tour also brought one very special man into Taylor’s life: her fiancé Travis Kelce. In the same episode of The End of an Era, Swift and her mother, Andrea, detail just how the power couple came to be. Even though the whole world knows how the movie-like meet cute of Travis’ friendship bracelet and New Heights podcast call-out goes, it’s still nice to hear Andrea tell “the pretty cool story” through her own perspective. “It was so earnest, I thought it was the sweetest thing in the world,” she says.

Andrea played a pivotal role in getting Taylor, who had been “very non-athlete” when it comes to dating, to meet the NFL star. “You said something to the effect of ‘you gotta start doing something different,’” Swift tells her mom. And the result has been something entirely new for Taylor, which she details throughout the episode.

Swift recounts Kelce’s appearance at the Eras Tour in London and shares just how unique their bond is as two career-oriented individuals: “I realized with this person in my life, you can have the two passions coexist, and they actually fuel each other,” she says.
