Knocked Loose and Denzel Curry throw a rager at the Louisville hardcore band’s hometown skatepark in the new video for “Hive Mind,” a brain-rattling new collaboration between the two acts. And it squarely takes aim at folks who can’t think for themselves — who wear their identities like a costume.
“This is something we’ve talked about doing for a long time,” says Knocked Loose frontman Bryan Garris, who directed the video with Eric Richter. “We wondered if we could pull it off and who would be down. In the very beginning, we said for it to work, it would have to be Denzel Curry. Because he gets it.” (Curry showed off his metal bona fides in 2019, when he covered Rage Against the Machine’s “Bulls On Parade.”)
The track, which thrums with delightful menace, blends Knocked Loose’s heavy riffs with Curry’s rapid-fire bars, deliciously denouncing group think. “Everybody wanna dick-ride/When you don’t follow the trend, you getting crucified/Got you leaning on the one side/When you lean the other way it’s social suicide,” spits Curry, while Garris asks: “Do you feel shame when you’re all alone?/No sense of self or thoughts of your own/Pretend it’s true, nothing less/Same old leash tied to me/Just a different fucking dress.” It’s a blistering condemnation of music’s hangers-on — and just a really heavy, excellent song.
Knocked Loose most recently dropped their Grammy-nominated, critically acclaimed 2024 record, You Won’t Go Before You’re Supposed To, and they’re primed to head out on the road with Metallica and Gojira. The band previously performed at the Rolling Stone studios in 2021.
