The country duo are hotter than a pepper sprout in a new song about coming undone
The Waymores go full Johnny and June in their new song “The Knot.” A back and forth duet between the Waymores’ Kira Annalise and Willie Heath Neal, the song announces the release of their new studio album, also titled The Knot. Released via Keystone Artist Connect, The Knot is streaming now.
“We’ve always written songs that come straight from the truth of our lives,” Kira Annalise says in a statement. “‘The Knot’ is about the ties that bind — whether you’re holding on or letting go.”
A shuffling, pedal-steel accented country slow-burner, “The Knot” is tailor-made for the barroom and evokes the chemistry of Johnny Cash and June Carter on their collabs like “Jackson.” The Waymores, who formed in Atlanta in 2018, recorded the song and new album in Nashville with producer Mose Wilson. The husband-and-wife duo and their band will play the B-Side Bar in Memphis tonight to celebrate the album’s release, before shows in Missouri this weekend.
The Waymores are the among a crop of exciting new country artists championed by the Pennsylvania-Texas collective Keystone Artist Connect. The company also represents Tyler-James Kelly, who just dropped his new song “One Mile at a Time,” the pioneering honky-tonker Rosie Flores, Hannah Juanita, who opens for Braxton Keith this weekend, and Alex Williams. Williams turned heads back in 2017 with his debut Better Than Myself; last year, he released a well-received album of hair-metal covers done as country songs, Space Brain.
