The women-centered project features J Noa, Mariah Angeliq, and more women musicians from all over Latin America
Ivy Queen is kicking off women’s history month with power moves. The Latin music icon is helming La Liga Feminina, an all-women collaboration album that is the first of its kind. Released March 6, the project features 19 women musicians from across Latin America, including Mariah Angeliq from Puerto Rico and Cuba, J Noa from Dominican Republic, Soley from Colombia and Loyaltty from Chile among others.
Produced by Boy Wonder and Charlee Way, who helped shape Latin music with various projects, La Liga Feminina traces the many facets of musica urbana and how each musician plays a role in the genre. On Ivy Queen’s song “Cría y Calle,” the genre’s queen offers a boastful declaration over a fiery reggaeton beat.
Meanwhile, Mariah Angeliq delivers a sultry, pop-infused track about an intoxicating love interest with “Nota Eleva.” On “No Da Nota,” J Noa flexes her rapid-fire flow as she spits bars comparing herself to a shark, punctuating the track with dembow flair.
With Boy Wonder behind the boards, La Liga Feminina marks yet another release from the producer’s label Chosen Few Emerald Entertainment. In February, Chosen Few released Chosen Few Dembow, a compilation album focused on the Dominican genre that is taking over the Latin music world.
The release of La Liga Feminina coincides with Ivy Queen’s birthday, which the rapper and singer celebrated earlier this week. “For the little girl who endured the NOs, the insults, and the humiliations. It’s my turn to celebrate myself. Today is the birthday of the woman who became her own investment,” she wrote in an Instagram post.
