Thomas Rhett Trusted Just One Insider With His Baby Secret

Thomas Rhett and his wife, Lauren Akins welcomed their fifth child and first boy, Brave, on Feb. 27, and they managed to keep the baby’s gender secret from all but one person outside their immediate family until they announced it.

They chose not to know the baby’s sex ahead of the birth. Rhett told me on Taste of Country Nights it’s one of the hardest things he has ever done, but that the surprise was well worth it.

As it turns out, there was one single, solitary person on Earth who actually knew the gender of baby No. 5 before he came home, and it’s not who you’d think.

Rhett was a guest on Country Countdown USA, where he said, “Lauren shared the information with our interior designer. We were going to have to change our nursery from pink to blue if it was a boy. So she knew in advance.”

“She told us she needed 24 hours to make the changes,” Rhett added. “When we were at the hospital, we called her. At that point they ripped down the wallpaper and changed things.”

What Does Thomas Rhett’s Nursery Look Like?

Before they made the phone call to their interior designer from the hospital, she already had a theme in mind. She was just waiting on the green light to change it to “a bunch of camo and ducks on the walls,” Rhett said. “Just different colors from what we had with the girls.”

Rhett said he and Lauren took a risk on the gender beans being spilled early, but it paid off for them.

“It was a miracle she was able to keep it a secret.”
