Aaron Watson Fact Checks Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’

Not too many artists in country music know the ins and outs of Texas quite like Texas country icon Aaron Watson.

When Watson first heard Ella Langley‘s “Choosin’ Texas” he had a few logistical questions about the lyrical content.

Watson was this week’s guest on Taste of Country Nights, where he jokingly explained how Miranda Lambert and Langley, co-writers of the song, should have checked in with him first before putting it out.

Watson told me, “That’s a great song. When I heard that song, I kinda freaked out. But you know, it’s like, these girls singing about my hometown…I grew up in Amarillo. I live in Abilene.”

Here’s where Watson questions the lyrical content of “Choosin’ Texas.”

Watson said, “First of all, those towns are like four and a half hours away [from each other], so where is homie going?”

He continued, “Where’s he going? You know what I’m saying? These towns are not close to each other.”

Aaron Watson Jokes About Not Being Involved With ‘Choosin’ Texas’

Going along with the schtick that Watson had going on during the interview, I jokingly asked the Texan if he felt that Lambert and Langley should have checked in with him to fact-check “Choosin’ Texas” before they released it.

Watson said, “It would have been nice.”

As far as Watson loving Langley’s music and everything she stands for, he said, “Who doesn’t, right?”

He also told me that his teenage daughter is enamored by Langley and her music, and that he tried to act like Langley knew who he was so he would appear cooler to his daughter.

Langley then responded in the best way possible.

How Did Ella Langley Burn Aaron Watson?

It all started when Watson’s daughter asked if Langley knows who he is.

Watson said, “‘Heck yeah…everybody knows who your daddy is,'”

However, he admitted to us that deep down, he knew that Langley didn’t know who he was, but he had to flex his status to his teenage daughter.

His daughter then said, “Hmm…well she doesn’t follow you on Instagram.”

“So, I made a funny video,” he told us. “Being like, ‘Hey Ella, my name is Aaron Watson and I’m a little country singer guy, if you could follow me that would make me a really cool dad.'”

“She literally didn’t follow me,” Watson said. “She just left me a comment and said, ‘You seem like you’re a lot.'”
