Kacey Musgraves to Play 3 Shows With Band Detained By ICE

Kacey Musgraves is fulfilling a promise she made last month to The Mariachi Brothers, a trio of teen mariachi players who were temporarily detained in an Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE) center in Texas.

Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar will open for Musgraves for three shows on May 3, 4 and 5 at Gruene Hall in New Braunfels, Texas.

The shows are attached to Musgraves’ upcoming album Middle of Nowhere, which will release just two days before the first of the three shows.

Who Are The Mariachi Brothers, the Band Performing With Kacey Musgraves in Texas?

Antonio, Caleb and Joshua Gámez-Cuéllar (ages 18, 14 and 12, respectively) live in McAllen, Texas. According to the New York Times, their family is originally from Mexico and sought asylum in the U.S. in 2023 due to cartel threats.

The family attended all scheduled court check-ins, but were detained by ICE in February. The two younger children were held with their parents in a family detention center in Dilley, Texas, according to The Guardianwhile Antonio was moved to a different adult facility.

Their case gained national prominence in February and March, in part because the brothers’ mariachi band had won a state competition in Texas the year prior.

Following bipartisan public outcry over their detention, the family was released. Kacey Musgraves, who shared multiple social media posts criticizing the uptick in ICE activity in early 2026, was among those who celebrated.

She also extended an informal gig offer to the brothers over Instagram.
