Taylor Swift Is Returning to Her Country Roots in 2026

Taylor Swift Is Returning to Country Music in 2026

While a full-blown country album is not on the table, the pop singer will be making a return to the genre that launched her career.

Swift has made a country song for the upcoming sequel to Toy Story. The track is called “I Knew It, I Knew You” and it will be featured in the fifth instalment of the animated film.

However, fans won’t have to wait until the movie arrives on June 19 to hear it! The hitmaker has revealed in a social media post that “I Knew It, I Knew You” will be released on Friday (June 5).

“I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5 year old kid watching the first Toy Story movie,” she writes on her socials.

“I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening,” she continues. “Sometimes you just know, right?”

Taylor Swift’s Involvement with Toy Story 5

Swifties knew the songwriter was up to something when she started sharing promotional material for the film. Her website even featured a Toy Story-themed countdown.

Knowing that Swift doesn’t do anything by mistake, fans were quick to assume she was involved with the film in some capacity when she used the iconic red and yellow font on her site. Not to mention, “TS” could easily stand for both Toy Story and Taylor Swift. The message was hidden in plain sight.

The song also finds Swift working with an old friend — Jack Antonoff.

And while many may think her song could fall into any genre, “I Knew It, I Knew You” was specifically written for everybody’s favorite cowgirl, Jessie. In fact, a press release says it was “inspired by the rootin’ tootin’ cowgirl Jessie’s ongoing journey in Toy Story 5 that began back in Toy Story 2.”

This is not a complete return to country music, but for those hoping she’ll make another country album at some point, it’s a step in the right direction.
