Chris Young recently dropped a deluxe version of his 2025 album I Didn’t Come Here to Leave and on it there is a new song addition, “Wedding Band.”

Don’t let the title fool you into thinking you should add it to your wedding day playlist because if you do, it might lead to your first argument as a married couple.

Why Chris Young’s ‘Wedding Band’ Likely Won’t Actually Get Played At a Wedding

Young was a guest on Taste of Country Nights where I asked him to detail the origins and story the song is conveying to listeners.

The “Famous Friends” singer said, “The song is a sad song, and it’s basically this guy that always was the guy playing a guitar at a party and he always sort of liked his friend but he never really told her — and then she falls in love and she’s getting married and she’s like ‘Will you play the reception?’ The hook of the song is ‘We’re both leaving with a wedding band.'”

The song was written by Tony Lane and Josh Phillips, and Young told me that he was joking with them that he was upset they didn’t call him to be a part of the song writing session that led to the song’s creation.
