Alabama Shakes Share Single ‘I Feel Hope Coming’ From New Album

I Must Be Dreaming, band’s first album in 11 years, out Aug. 28

The Alabama Shakes have shared their optimistic new single “I Feel Hope Coming,” the latest track off I Must Be Dreaming, the reunited band’s first album in 11 years.

Following previous singles “Another Life” and “American Dream,” “I Feel Hope Coming” is a call to protest. “This younger generation makes me feel hopeful because they can see through all the political lies — that song’s about holding onto that hope, and refusing to give up,” Brittany Howard said of the track in a statement.

Heath Fogg added, “I’m really happy that song exists. It came from such a joyful moment of collaboration, and exemplifies everything I love about this band being reborn.”

After nearly a decade of inactivity, Alabama Shakes — now Howard, guitarist Fogg, and bassist Zac Cockrell — staged a surprise reunion gig in Tuscaloosa, Alabama in December 2024. That was followed by a 2025 tour and “Another Life,” the band’s first new song in over a decade.

I Must Be Dreaming, due out Aug. 28 via Island Records, marks Alabama Shakes’ first album since 2015’s Sound & Color. “There’s a double meaning to it,” Howard said of the album title. “It could be saying, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so fucking crazy right now.’ But it could also mean, ‘I must be dreaming, because the world is so incredibly beautiful.’ Both those things can be true at once.”
