Benny Blanco has released the cumbia-inspired track “Te Olvido (La La)” to preview his upcoming album Hermoso. The producer called up two special people to help him out: His wife Selena Gomez and Becky G bring their tons of energy — and Chicana pride —to the Spanish-language song.
“Dime si somo o no somo de una vez, te lo pido / Y así yo decido si te quiero o te olvido,” Becky G sings on the chorus, which translates to “Tell me if we are or we aren’t, I’m asking you / So I can decide if I love you or forget you.” Gomez also has her own verse in Spanish; she’s previously released Spanish-language projects like 2021’s Revelación.
Along with the song, the stars shared an upbeat video directed by Stillz, the Colombian visionary behind several of Bad Bunny and Rosalia’s visuals, and produced by Estevan Oriol. The video features key symbols of Chicano culture, from lowriders to marionette dolls and sparkly Lady of Guadalupe statues. The iconic Mexican American actor Danny Trejo also stars in the visual, smashing a piñata and dancing alongside Becky G during a street party.
While Blanco is a Jewish-American known for his work on pop hits, it’s not the first time he’s dabbled with Latin music. Last fall, he helped co-produce Netón Vega’s latest album Delirium. In 2019, he worked alongside Tainy, J Balvin, and Gomez for the bilingual hit “I Can’t Get Enough.” Hermoso is set for release on Aug. 14.
