John Legend Shares ‘Get Ready’ in Exclusive ’12 Days of Snoopy’ Clip

The Raphael Saadiq-produced track appears in a new clip from 12 Days of Snoopy, premiering exclusively on Rolling Stone

With Halloween in the rearview mirror, John Legend and Snoopy are officially ready to kick off the holiday season. Legend has a new song, “Get Ready,” which you can now hear in a clip from the upcoming Peanuts special, 12 Days of Snoopy, premiering today on Rolling Stone.

In some ways the snappy piano-led tune harkens back to the iconic music Vince Guaraldi composed for various Peanuts specials in the Seventies. But Legned and producer Raphael Saadiq add to that a brassy soulful flare as Legend sings about Santa Claus preparing for the Christmas season, and everyone doing their best to be on his “good list.”

“When the score is tallied, the record’s read, the ledger calls you name,” Legend sings, “Will you be merry or instead/Just hang your head in shame?/Not much time to get in line/There’s some catching up to do/Santa Claus is getting ready/And I hope you’re ready, too.”

“Get Ready” is an ideal song for 12 Days of Snoopy, which is set to premiere Nov. 13 on Apple TV+. In the special, Snoopy has wound up on Santa’s naughty list and has just 12 days to change his standing with the big man (and possibly learn a lesson or two about what the holiday season is really about). The new clip with “Get Ready” shows Snoopy not exactly on his best behavior, as he starts a wild snowball fight with Woodstock that quickly spirals out of control (in extremely funny and adorable ways, of course).

Along with “Get Ready,” 12 Days of Snoopy will feature another new single, “Trying to Get There,” by Kamasi Washington and Leon Bridges. Laufey has also recorded a cover of the holiday classic, “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
