Jay Rock Arrested for Alleged Firearm Possession


Jay Rock was arrested in Los Angeles yesterday (March 13) after police claimed to find a firearm in his vehicle, KABC reports. A representative for the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department confirmed to Pitchfork that the Top Dawg Entertainment rapper, whose legal name is Johnny Reed McKinzie, was booked for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

According to KABC, Los Angeles police officers initially stopped Jay Rock by claiming that he was trespassing at an apartment complex in the city’s Watts neighborhood. Officers also claim that Rock attempted to flee in his vehicle when they tried to detain him without giving a reason. He was booked, they say, after a firearm was found in his vehicle. As of publication, Jay Rock remains in police custody.
