REVIEW: Interlaker – Interlaker – ALTCORNER.com

Interlaker, the project of former Lonely The Brave frontman David Jakes and Arcane Roots’ drummer Jack Wrench, are releasing their debut self-titled album on October 25.

It doesn’t take long to get hooked in as opener The Hunger has a funky rhythm to it. Jakes’ distinctive vocals shine out at times. It’s quite a simple but effective opening track.

Ghostride is a lovely song. The simple drums and guitar lines really help to highlight the lyrics during the verse. I’m not sure why but when Jakes sings ‘Everything was cruel inside until the day you died’ I actually had chills from his delivery.

It, along with End Unknown are the stand out tracks for me. The latter has a good hook. Spite of Day also comes close. It has some really interesting lyrics and I like the instrumentation around the three minute mark.

The album has a very alternative rock sound and it’s really pleasant to listen to. There’s nothing overly complicated and that is refreshing. It’s one of those albums that you can put on in the background and enjoy or dig in deep to and completely fall in love with.
