Beyoncé is slated to appear at Vice President Kamala Harris’ rally in Houston, Texas, on Friday (October 25), The New York Times reports. The Times confirmed that Beyoncé would attend the event in her hometown with two people briefed on the plans, after a report from The Washington Post began circulating earlier today.
Harris’ campaign event will center on abortion rights—a response to Texas’ near-total ban on abortion access, making it one of the most restrictive states in the country following the overturning of Roe v. Wade. Fellow Texan Willie Nelson will also attend the rally.
Beyoncé, who granted Harris permission to play her 2016 Lemonade hit “Freedom” at campaign events, was rumored to appear the 2024 Democratic National Convention in support of Harris, but she never appeared at the event. A representative for the star later told outlets that Beyoncé “was never scheduled to be there.”
In August, Beyoncé’s team threatened to hit former President Donald J. Trump’s campaign with an official cease-and-desist order over the use of “Freedom,” in social media clip starring Trump.
In previous presidential elections, Beyoncé has shown support for Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.
