Lowswimmer releases new record Godspeed Fantasy this month!
The album opens with Off-Centre, which has simple instrumentation comprising an acoustic guitar and calming vocals to start, before building up a bit. The track seems to centre on not quite feeling right, with some lyrics like “fearing your death at 25” standing out.
I can see why IRL was the lead single as it’s quite catchy.
Godspeed is the first song I actually fully enjoyed. The vocal delivery was much better throughout it.
Open Season and Oh, Completely both also catch my ear with their more rocky instrumentation.
The album isn’t really one for me. I do like how relaxing the instrumentation is throughout but the vocal delivery is quite strained in my opinion. From a struggle to hit the high notes towards the end of Pleasures, to the mix of lower and higher notes changing throughout Sleeper (Hit), it just didn’t keep me interested.
Though I did prefer Ed’s lower vocals in the latter half of Sleeper (Hit) and during Godspeed.
Instrumentally, the album is great. The mixture of acoustic guitars and synths combine well to create a relaxing yet still entrancing score.
