Review: Deadlands – SEVEN (EP)

Up-and-coming metal megastars Deadlands released a brand-new, extraordinary EP last month.

Seven follows themes of trauma, anxiety, stress and does so by using themes of the seven deadly sins. An all-around creative concept, with music that does not disappoint. Melodic verses, with heavy choruses and intense breakdowns.

The EP is full of passionate energy and serves as an emotional output. There are areas so dreamy, you’re removed from the real world and areas so heavy that you’re too enthralled to care. There’s relatability in the lyrics, and this is honestly one of the best releases that I’ve heard this year.

Villain was a great song to begin with. I was immediately feeling the energy that Deadlands bring to the table, and dancing along to the chorus. Limbo is probably my favourite of them, just for being the most unique. It was just a softer, more celestial sound, but without losing the heaviness. House of Cards is a strong end, though. Finishing the EP with wrath worked, as it feels like one last, big release.

Although there wasn’t one bad track, these were just my favourites.

I always feel like metal is better live, so being so excited by this EP… I need to experience this in person. This was the sound that I needed right now, so I hope that Deadlands come to the UK soon.

SEVEN is out now!
