The Academy Award winner plays rising country star’s “livin’, drinking work of art” paramour
Carter Faith isn’t into a man with a long-term plan in her new video for “Bar Star.” And who can blame her when her paramour in the clip is the charming, albeit “always getting Keystoned” Billy Bob Thornton.
In the visual, Faith is in a bar singing about and to her love interest, as Thornton performs onstage, flirts, and drinks his way through the night. He also peppers in plenty of smiles and winks, nodding to the tongue-in-cheek vibe of the catchy song.
“Some girls like a 9-to-5 man/Short hair and a longterm plan/Most like the kind that stay home at night/Never have to worry ‘bout starting no fights/Not me not mine/That ain’t my type,” Faith sings of her “damn livin’, drinking work of art” beau.
“Bless his liver and his honky-tonk heart/’Cause my baby’s a bar star,” she croons in the chorus.
A fan of Thornton, Faith reached out to see if he would star in her video and he said yes. “I can’t believe I somehow convinced Billy to be in my music video,” Faith said in a statement. “He is the ultimate bar star in my opinion, and I’m so grateful to him and for his friendship.”
The song hails from the Nashville-based singer’s debut album, Cherry Valley, which is set to arrive Oct. 3 via MCA. It follows her previously released LP singles “If I Had Never Lost My Mind…” and “Sex Drugs and Country Music.”
“Cherry Valley means everything to me,” said Carter in a statement announcing the album. “Every time I have slipped into a dark place (which I have a propensity for), this album has brought me out of it. I know that I wrote the songs, but they still carry reminders for me every day when I relisten. Some of the songs have even transformed for me and mean something different now.”
