Olivia Rodrigo Gets Versailles to Herself in New “Drop Dead” Video

Olivia Rodrigo has shared the lead single from her upcoming third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love. “Drop Dead” arrives alongside a music video directed by Petra Collins and filmed at the Palace of Versailles in Paris. Watch it below.

In the new song, which Rodrigo discusses stalking a crush from bed, said crush being a Gemini (she’s a Pisces), and the Cure’s “Just Like Heaven,” all while twirling around Marie Antoinette’s with a pink guitar and a pair of pink headphones in tow. Dan Nigro produced the track, and Amy Allen co-wrote it.

Rodrigo announced YSPSFAGSIL earlier this month, telling fans in a newsletter: “No matter how hard I try to write love songs they always come out laced with a little melancholy.” The announcement landed shortly after Rodrigo, in rollout fashion du jour, wiped her Instagram and a billboard with the album title popped up on Los Angeles’ Melrose Avenue. YSPSFAGSIL reunites Rodrigo with Nigro, who she also collaborated with on her 2021 debut, Sour.

The pop star released her last album, Guts, in 2023, which she supported via a world tour with the Breeders, a deluxe edition and a concert film. She’s also set to host and perform on Saturday Night Live on May 2, ahead of YSPSFAGSIL’s release on June 12.

Read about the Guts tracks “Vampire” and “Get Him Back!” at No. 52 and No. 5, respectively, in The 100 Best Songs of 2023.
