Jessica Simpson has released a reflective new single, “Hopeless Romance.” The emotional, country-tinged ballad was written by Simpson with Chris Isaak, JD McPherson, and Teresa LaBarbera, and produced by McPherson.
“I’ve always been in love with love/ I thought that you were too,” Simpson croons on the track. “Believing in a lucid tale/ The way that dreamers do/ Here I go again/ I’ll give us one more chance/ Hopeless romantic/ In a hopeless romance.”
The singer shared the song on social media, thanking her collaborators “for this therapy session.” The track follows her recent single, “Fade,” a boisterous acoustic track that was also produced by McPherson.
Both songs will appear on Simpson’s new EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 2, out Sept. 5. The five-song collection is a follow-up to her recent effort, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, which arrived earlier this year and marked her first original music since 2008.
She told Rolling Stone that she hoped to channel her emotions into the songs, noting, “I’m not comfortable with anger, so you won’t hear much anger in any of my music. You’ll hear frustration, but it’s strong. I deserve to love the way I love, and I love so deeply and so fully and in a committed way. Maybe there are others out there like that. Who knows?”
She added, “When I’ve had success in my life is when I’ve just been honest and real. I’ve never gotten a chance to do that in music until now.”
Simpson will play an exclusive concert at PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino on Nov. 8 in celebration of her EPs. She is also set to perform at the Grand Ole Opry on Sept. 9, 2025, shortly after releasing her second Nashville Canyon EP. “I feel so very blessed to get the opportunity that dreams are made of returning to the Opry stage during its 100th year,” Simpson wrote on Instagram. “My most precious memories from my Opry debut (2008) are all held with the radiance of Mrs. Loretta Lynn’s gracious smile, heart, words, hugs, hand holdin’ and introduction.”
