Pagan folk band Faun focus on witches, female healers and wise women on new album Hex.
From the get-go of Belladonna, we have some enchanting chanting. I love the back and fore between the male and female vocals, then uniting for the chorus about resting in the garden of Hecate.
The instrumentation in Nimue is really captivating, adding to the story of Merlin and Nimue. The same can be said for Blot, which focuses on the Vikings but uses various wooden instruments. At times it sounds like it wouldn’t be out of place in the Skyrim score.
Folk isn’t really my cup of tea but I really like the enchanting sound throughout Hex. It really gripped me with the atmospheric instrumentation and the airy vocals.
There wasn’t too much to say about the album and Faun without repeating myself too much but it’s a really strong album.
