REVIEW – I Promised the World Self-Titled EP

On January 16, Texas-five-piece I Promised the World released their self-titled EP!

I almost got whiplash from the way this EP mixes genre. The way that it defied expectation. Straight from the first track, Proud, that begins so soft, before screaming over the top. I was expecting a softer, Midwest emo vocal style, which we get in Future Worth Dying For.

I really enjoyed A Pure Expression, it had me bobbing my head, dancing. It is one of the heavier songs but then drops so quiet towards the end. But my favourite is Emerald Waltz. It’s very much an emo track, rather than one of their more hardcore songs. It just sounds sweet, it’s a little bit dramatic and works well as a grand finale, despite being so tender in comparison to the rest.

A fun ride, and a bit of a nostalgic sound for me. If this is a taster of what’s to come, I’m looking forward to seeing what I Promised the World release in the future. The EP is out now!
