Melodic metallers Gladenfold will release new album Soulbound on February 27 through Reaper Entertainment and it’s a good album.
There’s plenty of melodic and atmospheric guitar lines, which are particularly shown off in the opening of opener Fire Wind. The track also features atmospheric vocals and has a very strong 80s power metal sound.
There’s plenty of prominent drum lines throughout the album too, particularly in For My Queen. This is a rockier track but has a really cool guitar riff just before the two minute mark.
Helix of Hate brings some growl vocals back and they work well for the verses alongside the melodic chorus.
The guest vocals in Mercy work well and harmonise into the track. And I love the atmospheric delivery of closing track Soulbound Parallax.
I love the concept of the album – talking about fate, cycles and the consequences of actions – and it is delivered well through the lyrics, whilst the instrumentation gives a bit of an angelic sound.
I love the 80s power metal mixed with a bit of glam rock and heavier elements that are sprinkled throughout the record. It’s a good sound. The standout moment is definitely the guitars for me. In every single track, there’s some absolutely stunning guitar lines.
