REVIEW: Less Than Jake – Uncharted

Less Than Jake released their new EP Uncharted on November 15.

Instantly the EP draws you in with the jazzy sound of Broken Words. It’s a summer anthem and really catchy.

The chorus is insanely relatable talking about trying not to overthink the words that were said.

Despite the obviously somber lyrics to Walking Pipebomb, you still can’t not have a jam to it, it’s so upbeat.

Sunny Side combines a classic rock vocal with a sick chorus about keeping the sunny side up and dirty side down which is instantly living rent free in my head.

There’s not too much to say about each individual song without repeating myself. It’s not a repetitive record in terms of songs blending into one, but a lot of the stand out points are the same throughout.

Uncharted is an insane EP. It’s an in your face bop from start to finish. Whether it’s the jazzy opening tracks or the rock riffs of Not My Problem and it’s ‘woah’ backing vocals, you can’t help but jam along.

The hooks in the choruses are delivered beautifully, shown again in my favourite track Not My Problem with “you had it all, you were standing on top of the world, you took the fall and now you’re face down kissing the dirt.”

The toning of the guitars works really well throughout to keep an upbeat sound but reflect some of the more angsty lyrics.

Less Than Jake have been going for years now and were one of the groundbreaking bands when I was younger and it’s safe to say that they’ve just got better and better. Put on Uncharted and have a right old party whatever your mood!
