Here are 13 rock and metal masterpieces that came out at least 20 years after their respective band’s debut album!
Although it’s not always guaranteed, a band’s greatest work usually comes during the first half of their career. (For instance, it’s probably their second, third, fourth or fifth studio LP that ranks above the rest.) That said, there’ve also been cases of a group’s final record being their finest record.
Of course, the amount of time the band’s been around is a factor, as is the amount of material they’ve released over those years. For example, it’s uncommon for an artist to completely knock it out of the park with a new collection two full decades (or more) past their first full-length outing.

Now, that doesn’t mean that these LPs are superior to everything that came before them – although some might be – but rather that they beat the odds by being nearly (or totally) flawless from beginning to end.
As always, we’re curious to see if you agree with us about these LPs or if you find some of them to be less than stunning. Likewise, which albums would you put in their place?
