Both Avery*Sunshine and NxWorries have won Best Progressive R&B Album at the 2025 Grammys. They tied for the victory for the albums So Glad to Know You and Why Lawd?, beating out Childish Gambino (Bando Stone and the New World), Durand Bernarr (En Route), and Kehlani (Crash).
Donald Glover was vying for his sixth Grammy as Childish Gambino tonight, for what he insists is the project’s final album. Bando Stone and the New World made for his second Best Progressive R&B Album nomination, after being recognized for “Awaken, My Love!”, in 2018, and eventually losing out to the Weeknd’s Starboy. Donald Glover also features on Kaytranada’s “Witchy,” which was up for Best Dance/Electronic Recording earlier in the day.
Aside from Glover, none of the nominees had won a Grammy before tonight. Anderson .Paak—one half of NxWorries, alongside Knxwledge—came in as an eight-time winner, but never as part of the duo. Kehlani has five total nominations, including two more this year, but stopped short of scooping Best R&B Performance (“Distraction”) or Best Urban Contemporary Album (You Should Be Here) in recent years. Durand Bernarr and Avery*Sunshine are both first-time nominees, with Best Progressive R&B Album their sole nomination at the 2025 awards.
Last year, SZA took the prize for SOS. The category launched back in 2013, with Frank Ocean an apt inaugurator with Channel Orange.
