REVIEW: TheCityIsOurs – Will You Still Love Me

I was pretty excited for TheCityIsOurs to release album number three, Will You Still Love Me, and I wasn’t disappointed.

Shame’s synth opening and heavy breathing makes for an interesting start. The quick vocals are quite haunting with the added burst of metal making sure you’re not content to listen to something unnerving (in a good way). The breakdowns are funky and lyrically it’s a good song talking about feeling shame.

In The Dark mixes soulful vocals and screams and is reminiscent of Issues in the Headspace era, but heavier. It has a great poppy hook and even some rap style lyrical delivery.

Hot Mess brings in yet more differing vocals with the screams being mixed with a more Architects style clean vocal. The line “H.O.T.M.E.S.S he thinks he’s got it figured out, he’s a hot mess” is extremely catchy.

These opening three tracks set a precedent for the album. It shows the variety of vocals which are seen throughout the record, the talent in the breakdowns and overall good songwriting.

Tracks like Sugar and Freak Like You and have a more soaring poppy sound with dancey elements whereas there’s more of a heavy focus with the breakdowns on the likes of Hush! Hush! and Can You Feel It, and a very Architects feel to the likes of I See You.

I love the lyrics throughout the album, particularly in Dopamine with the chorus of “How am I feeling so free? This rush of dopamine is too good to be true.” Not only are they well written but they’re delivered perfectly. Psycho is another one with fantastic lyrical content and the hip hop-style delivery works really well. The chorus is really clever: “Spent your whole life with your one track mind, always trying to define what you just don’t know

Now you try to diagnose, well let me oppose, guess its case closed

Oh God I guess that I’m a Psycho”, and the distortion as it’s repeated later in the song is a genius move.

Sonically each track is literally a piece of musical heaven and to focus on Hush! Hush! a bit more because it combines a proper dancey vibe with heavy breakdowns and adds a sax in for that extra bit of spice. I think it’s the stand out on the album.

To answer the album title: Will You Still Love Me… the answer is yes TheCityIsOurs. This is a fantastic album which is going to need something massive to knock it off the albums of 2025 list.
