Playboi Carti Makes Billboard Charts History as New Album Music Debuts at No. 1

Playboi Carti’s new album, Music, has debuted atop the Billboard 200. The Atlanta rapper’s second chart-topper, following Whole Lotta Red, sold 298,000 equivalent album in its first week, Billboard reports via Luminate.

All 30 songs on Music have also placed on the Billboard Hot 100. As a result, Playboi Carti is the first rapper, and just the third-ever artist, to have every track on a 30-plus-song album make the singles chart. Previously, all 31 entries on Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology charted, as did all 36 songs of Morgan Wallen’s One Thing at a Time.

The highest-charting Music songs are “Evil J0rdan” and the Weeknd collaboration “Rather Lie,” which landed at Nos. 2 and 4, respectively. “Evil J0rdan” opened with 30.8 million streams, while “Rather Lie” had 26.6 million streams, according to Billboard. The lowest-charting Music entry is “Walk,” which debuted at No. 96. For good measure, Playboi Carti has a 31st song on the Hot 100, Hurry Up Tomorrow’s “Timeless,” which is at No. 23 and has now spent 25 weeks on the chart.

Playboi Carti released Music on Friday, March 14. The star-studded affair features Kendrick Lamar, the Weeknd, Future, Lil Uzi Vert, Young Thug, and others.
